Early in the first quarter Albany trailed Schenectady 10-3 and never caught up the rest of the game. Schenectady was able to control the tempo of the game and prevented Albany from getting easy baskets near the rim.

“We played good defense, they didn’t shoot well as a team from the outside and we were able to capitalize off of that,” said Coach Eric Loudis. The Schenectady team played a 3-2 zone defense the whole game. This particular defense was implemented by Joe Loudis Schenectady’s JV coach, who coached varsity boys basketball at Cohoes for 30 years. Eric Loudis, like his dad, teaches his players the 3-2 zone defense.

Schenectady’s team was lead by 8th grader Tobias Holmes, who played great offensively and defensively.  Holmes made a number of 3 pointers in the first half to help maintain Schenectady’s lead. He  also had success passing the ball to his teammates that lead to some easy scores.

Homes said his passing and shot selection helped him in the game.”He played nearly the entire time   “Defense was a big factor, you want to be active on defense, and our intensity was a big part, we came out strong and finished strong,” said Holmes.  He made some tough layups as well as jump shots during the course of the game.

“I like to drive more, but I also like to shoot when I’m open,” said Holmes. Schenectady  was able to control the tempo of the game and score on easy baskets in transition caused by their defense.

“We were able to control the tempo, we hit a couple of jumpers and that was the biggest part,” Joe Loudis said. Albany struggled as a team to score on Schenectady’s 3-2 zone.  -30-
