Tyler Fire Equipment apparent low bidder for gear

A contract for protective clothing for city firefighters was awarded to Tyler Fire Equipment of Elmira at a meeting of Board of Contract and Supply Tuesday.

Tyler Fire Equipment submitted a bid for $ 1,044.01 unit price per coat and $754.89 unit price per pair of pants, according to Regina Goodbee, the deputy city clerk. Garrison bid $1,362 for each coat and $799.75 for each  pair of pants.

The only two bidders for the gear were Tyler Fire Equipment and Garrison Fire and Rescue Corporation. Both vendors sell fire appartus and equipment.

Goodbee said the city generally awards the contract to the lowest bidder.

Tyler Fire Equipment is based in Elmira. The company sells  protective clothing, nozzles, and hose gaskets.

Garrison Fire and Rescue Corporation is located in Palenville.  It sells products from some well known manufacturers of  protective clothing for firefighters and emergency medical service workres, according to the company’s web site. Their protective clothing is designed to improve firefighters’ working conditions, to be durable, and to fit in to the budget.

The contract will be reviewed by the city’s legal department before it is forwarded to the mayor for final approval, Goodbee said. Tyler plans to sign the contract as soon as possible, according to Charles Willoughby, a Tyler sales consultant.-30-
