Price Chopper sponsors spaghetti dinner for charity

November 19, 2011

by Kayla Matteo

The Madison Avenue Price Chopper will sponsor an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner at the Elks Lodge on Sunday to raise funds for the Pine Hills Elementary School Holiday Fund. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children 5 and up. Children under 5 eat for free.

The organizers of the elementary school holiday fund buy local families toys and clothing for the holiday season. Sunday’s event marks the fourth year of fundraising for this project and the first official fundraising event.   The effort is headed by the Pine Hills Elementary PTA and school social worker Cathy Huttner. She was contacted by Price Chopper about the event. Huttner said she was concerned about the effort receiving less support than previous years because of the  economy.

“We were really glad that Price Chopper reached out to us,” Huttner said.

Generally the event has been promoted through word-of-mouth. Last year, enough money was raised to serve the needs of 36 children and 18 families.

“It’s gotten bigger every year,” said Huttner. The spaghetti dinner is a new twist on raising money for this cause. As of Friday, about $400 had been donated, according to Bryony Pfleging, customer service supervisor at the Madison Avenue Price Chopper.

Tickets will be sold at the door, and a raffle will take place at the event. The PTA hopes to raise $1,000 this year. The dinner will be staffed by Price Chopper employees and runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Elks Lodge on North Allen Street. Tickets are also available at the Madison Avenue customer service desk. -30-
